The Homestead Begins

Katelyn's great aunt and uncle built this historic house on 150 acres split from their family farm. During recent renovations, we unearthed boards signed by the original builders—a tangible connection to our roots.

They eventually sold the land to the Huppert family, who established a thriving dairy operation that would run for an incredible 100 years, stewarding the land through the 20th century.

A Family Legacy Returns

Katelyn (5th generation) and Patrick (3rd generation)reunited the original homestead land with the Schommer name, bringing the story full circle.

With invaluable support from the Family/Friends, Mark Huppert,Siverling Centennial Farms, and loyal customers, the operation is being transformed into an organic holistic model honoring both tradition and innovation.

Today, you see three generations of expertise in every pasture and premium cut—a perfect blend of old-school values with modern, eco-focused farming.

Grazeful Acres Is Born

Harold and Martha Schommer, 3rd-generation farmers with deep agricultural roots, purchased 20 acres with a clear vision: to raise cattle the right way.

Their approach was revolutionary for its time—respecting both the land and the animals. This philosophy would become the foundation of everything we do at Grazeful Acres, passed down through generations.

Growing with Innovation

Mark Huppert, the only boy of 8 children, constantly innovated adapting the newest technology of the day to minimize tillage and resist erosion.

He introduced rotational grazing and began raising premiumWagyu and Angus breeds under sustainable practices—setting the stage for the exceptional beef we're known for today.

Knowledge Meets Tradition

Growing up farming, then earning an Agricultural Engineering degree to stay connected and continue the course toward sustainable agricultural production.

Moving back to start the farm and teach at an Agricultural school allows us to practice what we preach to our environmental engineering and agricultural engineering students.

With friends and family bringing generations of beef production and breeding knowledge through university connections, we combine academic excellence with time-tested farming wisdom.
